There are many types of reserved items a professor can have you use, from an article on Electronic Reserve, to a book, to a DVD or sound recording. In this page, you will find instructions for finding and using Reserved Items. Please note that reserves can be checked out from the Circulation Desk, and that they must remain in the library.

Electronic Reserves
Also called E-Reserves, these are a popular form of reserves that allow a class to view PDF versions of an article or portion of a book. These can be can be found in MaconCat and viewed from any computer with internet access and Adobe Acrobat reader. These are the only kind of reserves that are not checked out from the Circulation Desk.
Books and Articles on Reserve
For many classes, certain books or photocopied articles will be required reading for your class. When a professor tells you those items are on reserve at the library, they mean that they are held in behind the Circulation Desk. All reserved books and articles have 2-hour loan periods, and you must use them in the library. The library has two copiers in case you need to print copies of your own. You can find out more information by just asking one of the library staff. Please know your professor's name when asking for a reserve!!!
Videos and DVDs on Reserve
Sometimes a professor will place a video or a DVD on reserve. These also cannot be taken out of the library. However, we have DVD and video players located behind the Video Shelves. These reserves can be checked out at the Circulation Desk for the duration of the movie rounded up to the nearest hour. (A movie that is 2 hours and 30 minutes long will be checked out for 3 hours.)
Audio and Data CDs on Reserve
A professor may ask students to listen to an audio CD or view a file on a data CD here in the library. You can use a CD player or one of the computers in the Library's lab to listen to audio CDs. Data CDs must be accessed using a computer. These items can be checked out from the Circulation Desk for 2 hours.
