Microsoft Vista Migration
In the spring, we will begin the campus’ migration to Microsoft Office 2007 and the summer will bring the migration to Microsoft Vista. This will be a gradual process and training will be made available. The biggest issue we will face is software, specifically on computer labs, running on Vista. Many of your programs may work as is, others may not work without either an upgrade or patch.
We wanted to bring this issue to your attention as you begin to plan your budget for the next academic year. If an upgrade or complete new version is required, you will need to plan for this expense. We will be reviewing the “standard” software on computers such as Microsoft Office, Adobe reader, and eTrust. Software that is specific to your discipline will need to be reviewed by you – we are willing to assist you as well, and can test the computer lab images we presently have on the Vista operating system as time allows.
We suggest visiting your vendors website if you have any questions on Vista compatibility. Microsoft has released a list of applications that have earned the "Certified for Windows Vista" logo or the "Works with Windows Vista" logo. Please visit http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933305 for details.
Since the call for budget inputs for 2008-2009 will be coming up in the next 4-6 weeks, this is a good time for all of us to add any critical software upgrades to your budget requirements as we start the conversion to Microsoft Vista and Microsoft Office 2007.
We will be happy to help with any questions you may have regarding these systems.
