Question 1: How do I get an email account?
Email accounts for all members of the R-MC community are automatically created by ITS and will be sent to you via campus mail. Freshman email will be distributed by the Admissions Office prior to the start of school. Faculty and Staff will receive theirs once they are processed by Human Resources.
Question 2: How can I access my R-MC email remotely?
If you have internet access, type in http://webmail.rmc.edu. You will need to enter your R-MC email username and password. This program functions very much like your traditional Outlook and your email resides on our server not the computer's hard drive. WinXP users will need to enter their username as username@rmc.edu.
Question 3: I can't get Webmail to work!
Open Internet explorer, go to Tools > Internet Options and select the Advanced tab. Scroll down to Security and de-select Enable Integrated Windows Authentication (requires restart). Select OK and restart the computer. Open Internet Explorer and browse to http://webmail.rmc.edu/exchange. Logon using the following syntax:
username@rmc.edu
AOL Users:
Connect to your AOL account as usual. Open Internet Explorer and type in http://webmail.rmc.edu/exchange. You will then be prompted for your username and password.
Question 3: How do I get my computer equipment installed or repaired?
All faculty and staff supported computer equipment owned by R-MC is maintained by ITS. You must call x8500 to log a service call.
Students can receive limited ethernet and software support from our student techs. You must call x8500 to log a service call. R-MC provides hardware maintenance and trouble shooting on a limited basis for student owned computers. There are no labor charges, but if replacement parts are needed, it is the responsibility of the student to purchase these items. If computer software becomes corrupt, ITS can only restore software that is provided by the student and any personal data will be lost when the operating system is restored. Students must sign a waiver stating that they fully understand the loss of data.
Question 4: How do I get software installed on my computer?
There are two ways to have supported software installed. The first is to check the R-MC website to see if you can download it yourself. Other supported software can be installed with the assistance of ITS technical staff by calling x8500.
Question 5: I don't have my own computer, what can I do?
There are thirteen laboratories on campus which have computers you can use. The labs in the Copley Science Center and the Library are the most often used for non-class student work and are open most nights until midnight.
Question 6: I have a computer in the residence halls (student) or my on-campus office (faculty/staff), how do I get it connected to the network?
If you're a student and you live on campus, there is a network connection in your room which allows you to directly connect to the campus data network and the world via an Ethernet card. Students will need to purchase an ethernet card and cable. If you already have an ethernet card, you may call our Student Helpdesk at x8500 for instructions.
Faculty and Staff computers will be installed by ITS with a network connection.
Question 7: Is there training available?
ITS has a number of self-guided materials for you to borrow or access via our Professional Development page. Please call x8500 to reserve these items.
