SECTION 9 - COMMUNICATION OF PERSONNEL POLICY
The College communicates matters of general interest such as job openings, changes in benefits, changes in policies, etc., through a variety of means. It is your responsibility to become familiar with the College's announcements, since many of them will affect you directly or indirectly. Policies, procedures, and benefits are subject to change at any time.
9.1 Role of the Supervisor
Your supervisor is the person on the management staff who will work most closely with you and who can best provide guidance about your progress and tell you how your work fits into the organization. You should think of your supervisor first when you have any questions about either the details of your work or about College policies.
Your supervisor is one of your best sources of information about your job and your benefits. When you have questions, ask your supervisor; it is part of the supervisor's job to be helpful in these matters.
9.2 Email/Website/Bulletin Boards
Information of general interest will typically be routed via email through the College community, posted on the R-MC website, or posted on the bulletin boards in the reception area of the Physical Plant building, in the mailroom at Peele Hall, and in the Campus Center.
9.3 Employee Newsletter
The Marketing & Communications Office publishes and distributes to all employees a monthly employee newsletter entitled The Buzz. Oftentimes, this publication contains official statements of College policy as well as announcements of general interest. You are responsible for becoming familiar with any policy statements contained in this publication.
9.4 Booklets, Letters, and Memos
Booklets are provided to explain your insurance policies, retirement options, and College policies and procedures (this manual is an example of such a booklet). You should review this material carefully. From time to time, the College will also distribute letters or memoranda to all members of the staff, and occasionally your supervisor will issue memoranda to all members of your department. These letters and memoranda may update the information contained in this manual or another booklet, or they may address an issue more specifically than it is covered elsewhere. In any case, they frequently contain official statements of College policy, and you are responsible for becoming familiar with the information that they contain.
