Macon-A-Video
The Higgins Academic Center and McGraw‐Page Library proudly sponsor the Student Video Contest. The Contest seeks creative and fun stories that reflect positive aspects of the academic and campus life of Randolph‐Macon. Examples include – but are not limited to – videos of study abroad, internship, community services, and activities of student organizations; you may even enter the contest with something you have done for class assignments! The submission deadline is Friday, February 27, 2009.
GUIDELINES:

1. The run‐time of the video must be 1 to 4 minute‐long. |
|
2. The video must be original. Re‐mix or re‐edit of commercial productions or R‐MC marketing materials is not eligible. |
|
3. The video must reflect happenings during the period of August 2008 to February 2009. |
|
4. The video must include 1) a title; 2) visuals accompanied by narration and/or text overlay; and 3) credits. The visuals are made up of still images and/or motion pictures. The narration or text overlay must be present, but do not have to run from the beginning of the video through the end. Sound effects and background music are optional. |

5. Students are encouraged to collaborate with peers, faculty and staff for making the video, while individual projects are also eligible. If the submitted video is part of course assignments, the course instructor must be listed as a producer. |

6. The final production must be in Windows Media or DVD video format. It must be saved on a CD or DVD for submission, with the producer’s name(s) on the disk. |

7. Submit the video in person to Lily Zhang in the McGraw‐Page Library during the Media & Instructional Support office’s operation hours. The deadline is Friday, February 27, 2009.

Awards:
Winning videos will be selected for content, creativity, technical quality and overall effectiveness of delivery. Prizes will be announced on March 10, 2009. The First Place winner will receive a cash prize of $200 for the production. The Second Place winner will receive $100 for the production. Two (2) honorable mention awards will be given, with each production receiving $50.
Important Notes:
All videos submitted for the R‐MC Student Video Contest will become properties of the College. Randolph‐Macon will be the copyright owner of the videos, and reserve the rights to publishing and broadcasting them. The producer of the video must provide names and contact information of the individuals who are identifiable in the video.
Resources:
The Media & Instructional Support in the library has limited number of video cameras for check out. Go to the MIS website for policies on borrowing the equipment. In addition, video editing software is installed on the workstations in Media Pods at the library and some PCs in the Butler Multimedia Learning Center (Language Lab in Haley Hall). Finally, resources on telling stories through video are available on http://www.storycenter.org/resources.html.
