- Our tutors rock. We are staffed by students, for students. Tutors come in all shapes, interests, and backgrounds--what they share is a love of writing, a friendly attitude, and an excitement about helping you.
- Help is on the way. Feeling a bit uncertain about how to write a biology paper? Not sure about what your sociology professor is asking for? A little unclear about your organization? Are you great with grammar but not so clear on those commas? We're the ones who can help you before you turn that paper in.
- What goes on, anyway? When you come to the writing center, we set aside 45 minutes of one-on-one time to help you. If you don't need that much time, that's fine. Some people want more, and they make follow-up appointments after their first set of revisions.
- Wanting something more? We specialize in academic papers, but we do more! If you want help with an application, a short story, a submission to Dear Abby, or whatever else you come up with, we can give you feedback on that too. We also support writers through campus speakers, events, and off-campus trips. Check out our events page.
Although you can just stop by (we're open evenings), an appointment is better. You can sign up with our on-line scheduler prior to the day of the appointment.
That's the best part. We have a great crew that you can get to know. Find one you like and keep coming back for more.

Krista Speicher: I love drinking tea, creative writing, reading, coffee shops, and riding horses. Come see me in the Writing Center for any kind of paper, but I can especially help you with Art History and English papers, as well as grammar, sentence structure, and organization in any kind of paper.

My name is Elizabeth Gauthier but most people call me Liz. I am from Haiti, which is a little country in the Caribbean. I speak French, Haitan Creole, and English fluently. I am majoring in Biology, and minoring in Women's Studies and Philosophy. Unlike other writing tutors in the world, I enjoy reading and writing. If anyone ever needs to learn the basics of skateboarding or write a very nice Biology Research Report, I am your woman. Avoiding and fixing run on sentences has slowly but surely become my specialty. I also really like seeing happy, anxious, and stressed out faces at the Writing Center, so please come visit me there. Au Revoir! |

Hey, I’m Ben Larson. I am a sophomore and am majoring in Political Science. I am a brother of Sigma Phi Epsilon and my interests include music and traveling. I am also an avid photographer and take my camera everywhere. Come see me at the Writing Center and I can help you with grammar and structure in your papers. I can help with many aspects of the writing process, especially for Political Science or History papers. |

Hannah Tisson: Hi! I'm an Army brat whose hometown combines memories and people from all over this country and abroad. I love skiing, writing, reading, traveling, running, and art! Although I am specially trained in English and Art History writing, I'm willing to help you with writing of all sorts. I'll assist you with each step of the writing process. and also help you to navigate the MLA Handbook. Happy writing! |

Hello! My name is Becky Johnsen. Currently, I am majoring in Economics/Business and Drama; it was so hard to commit to a major that I decided to try two completely new fields. Although I can help out any Econ or Fine Arts majors out there, I'm also versed in English, History, and Psychology. At any give point I am either intensely multitasking or incredibly lazy, so I understand the persistent dilemma of procrastination. That being said, no matter what stage of the writing process, no matter how daunting the assignment, we'll get it done together! |

Hi, I’m Heang Sok. I’m from Cambodia, a country with the oldest civilization in Southeast Asia. Since English is my third language after Khmer and Chinese, I have paid lots of attention to English grammar in the process of learning this language. I can help you with grammatical problems, punctuation, and many other kinds of mechanical issues. I double major in Business/Economics and Computer Science, so if you have an Econ paper or a comp sci lab report, come look for me at the Writing Center. In my free time, I like watching TV, listening to music, chatting with friends, gardening, and watching and feeding my gold fish. |

Hello, my name is Ray Varner and I am from Botetourt County, a small county out in the western part of Virginia. I am a Religious Studies major with a German minor, but don't let that fool you. I am able to tutor papers of all kinds. My specialty, though, would have to be English 185. I actually wrote the tutoring worksheet on it, if you can believe that. When I am not tutoring at the Writing Center, I am playing every Intramural sport here at Randolph-Macon, especially Ultimate Frisbee. I love card games and am not afraid to play two or three games of Goldfish a day. |

I'm Ashley Hampton. I love an adventure, rock climbing, traveling, and especially a good book. I'm a History major with a Religious Studies and Education minor. I would love to help you with papers from all subjects, but I am more familiar with the social sciences and english papers. I can help you create a thesis statement, navigate tricky puncuation rules, or organize the multitude of ideas in your paper |
