PREPARING FOR TESTS & EXAMS
Certain techniques apply to any type of test or exam, and others only apply to certain types of assesssments. Use the following strategies as appropriate:
Before the Test:
Keep copies of all old test and quizzes and assigments. |
Check over these materials with your study buddy or a tutor to make sure you have all of the correct answer and they don't either, ask your professor. Correct all of the old tests, and rewrite answers to essay questions that you missed points on. |
As you make corrections, make a list of things you are still not clear about, and take the list of questions to the professor. |
Ask your professor what material will be covered on the exam and in what format: multiple-choice, T/F, essay, etc. |
Locate all of your old note cards, visual organizers, and re-written notes from the semester. If you missed class and didn't get notes for that day, get them from someone else in class. |
Block off time on your calendar for study in every subject. Plan at least 4 session per subject. |
Find a good place to study. |
Practice your cards, notes, and lists of questions OUT LOUD. |
Note: If you need to make special arrangements to take your exam, e.g. at a different time than the class does or in different place, see your professor well in advace of exam day.
