Omicron Delta Kappa (ODK) is The National Leadership Honor Society that recognizes and encourages superior scholarship, leadership, and exemplary character. Founded in 1914 in Virginia, ODK now comprises Circles at over 350 colleges and universities nationwide. Membership in ODK is a mark of the highest distinction and honor. Emphasis is placed on the development of the whole person, both as a member of the college community and as a contributor to a better society. To find out more about ODK, please check out the website at www.odk.org.
Randolph-Macon College chartered its Circle on March 4, 1933, becoming the 33rd Circle. Since that time, R-MC has inducted over 5,000 outstanding students who have made a real difference both inside and outside the classroom.
Membership is awarded to undergraduate juniors and seniors whose cumulative grade point average places them in the top 35% of the Randolph-Macon College student population. All candidates must also demonstrate leadership in at least one of the five phases of campus life in order to be selected:
- Scholarship
- Athletics
- Campus community service, social and religious activities, and campus government
- Journalism, speech, and the mass media
- Creative and performing arts
Qualified students are invited to apply to the Circle in the spring semester of each year. An ODK Meet n’ Greet reception is held as a part of the application process so that perspective members can interact with current ODK students, faculty and staff. A committee of current ODK members reviews applications. Selection announcements are made by letter and The ODK Induction Ceremony is typically held in late spring.
We hope that you will take advantage of all the opportunities that Randolph-Macon College has to offer. Utilizing your skills and interests to their fullest will be a key ingredient in your qualification for ODK. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Dean Azdell at gazdell@rmc.edu.
