The Career Center offers Resume Writing Workshops throughout the year in which students learn basic resume development skills. There are reference materials on resumes in the Center library and staff are available during walk-in hours to review resumes. Students are encouraged to develop a resume early in their academic career so that they can use it to secure career related summer or in-term employment, volunteer experiences, or internships.
Writing Your Resume: A resume is one of the most important documents you'll write in the job search process. Even after you start a new job, it is important to continue to keep your resume up-to-date. The purpose of a resume is to obtain an interview. It is important that your resume be clear, well-organized and easy-to-read. All resumes contain:
- Job Objective (optional)
- Brief Summary of Qualifications
- Skills and Background
- Education
- Other Relevant Experiences (i.e. community involvement, volunteer work, awards/recognitions)
- All resumes should be accompanied by a cover letter
