"Good clothes open all doors."
--Thomas Fuller

A very important part of the interviewing process is how you dress. Professional clothes make the best impression and good hygiene is essential. Everything in your interview outfit should be neat, clean, pressed and coordinated. Don't go overboard on clothing - your clothes should not draw attention from what you say during the interview but should create a professional image to support what you say. Keep your clothing subtle but professional.
At times, dress may be more casual during an interview. Interviews with a small Dot.com or high-tech company may be much more casual than an interview with a bank. Many times these more relaxed companies will screen-out the suits and look for someone who is more casual in their dress.
Things to keep in mind when getting ready for an interview:
- Don't wear too much perfume or aftershave
- Make sure your colors and patterns are coordinated
- Fingernails should be clean and properly cut
- Hair should be neat and combed
- Clothes should be fresh, neat and pressed
- Jewelry should be sparse, conservative and have a quality appearance
- Shoes should be polished, not scuffed

Clothing by itself won't get you the job. Make sure that whatever you wear, you feel comfortable. If you are unsure about what to wear, check with family and friends who have gone through the interviewing process.
