Churchill Scholarship. November 12. One year of graduate study in engineering, mathematics or science at Churchill College, Cambridge University. U.S. citizen. Age 19-26. GRE scores are required. Awards cover all expenses with an additional $10,000-$12,000 living allowance while attending Cambridge University in England. Contact the Career Center for more information, x7270.
Davies-Jackson Scholarship.November 14.Open to graduating seniors with exceptional academic records and who are among the first in their families to graduate from college. Recipient studies at St. John's College in Cambridge, England. A Cantab degree (the equivalent of a masters degree) is awarded upon program completion. Recipients study one of the following subjects: Archaeology and Anthropology, Classics, Economics, English, Geography, History, History of Art, Modern and Medieval Languages, Music, Philosophy, or Social and Political Sciences. Fulbright Grant. October 25. U.S. government grants for one year of study in one of over 100 countries. U.S. citizen. Open to graduating seniors and graduate students.Several grants are available. Full grants cover one year if study in another country. Travel and foreign/ private grants are only available for certain countries; for this reason the amounts vary. Ford Foundation Fellowships for Minorities. November 20. Sponsored by the Ford Foundation and administered by the National Research Counsel of the National Academies. award covers up to $7500 for tuition and fees and includes a $16,000 stipend. Eligibility: Planning a career in teaching and research at the college or university level; UScitizen or national - Native American Indian, Mexican American/Chicana/Chicano, Alaska Native (Eskimo or Aleut), Native Pacific Islander (Polynesian or Micronesean), Black/African American, or Puerto Rican. Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Graduate Scholarship Program. February 1. Graduating seniors and recent graduates (up to 5 years) may be considered. Students must be nominated by themselves or others. Specific characteristics of candidates include: GPA of 3.5 and above; Demonstrate leadership, academic achievement, critical thinking ability; potential to make a significant contribution to field of study and/or society; volunteerism/public service; appreciation for/participation in the arts and humanities. The amount and duration of awards will vary by student, based on the cost of attendance and length of the program as well as other scholarships or grants received. James Madison Graduate Fellowship. February 15. U.S. citizens and U.S. nationals who demonstrate a commitment to civic responsibilities and to professional and collegial activities. Awards up to $12,000 maximum yearly with no more than $24,000 awarded for two years. Applicants are evaluated on their demonstrated commitment to a career teaching American history, American government, or social studies at the secondary school level and several related criteria. John L. Carey Scholarship. April 1st. For liberal arts students who plan to study graduate accounting and obtain CPA certificate. Scholarships are awarded based on academic achievement, leadership and future career interest. Seven $5,000 scholarships awarded annually. Awards can be renewed for one year. Marshall Scholarship. October 12.For two years of study in a degree program at any British university. U.S. citizen. Awards full tuition and fees, travel and living expenses. Mellon Fellowship.Early December. Managed by the Woodrow Wilson National Fellowship Foundation. One year fellowship in the humanities including a stipend and payment of tuition and fees for graduate school. Seniors or recent graduates eligible. No prior graduate work. National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowships. November 12. For students "at or near the beginning of their graduate study" in science, mathematics or engineering. NSF applications are accepted in the senior year or first year of graduate study. U.S. citizen. Awards a $21,500 stipend for 12-month tenure; education costs allowance of $10,500 and a one time $1000 International Research Travel Allowance. Contact the Career Center for more information, x7270.
Rhodes Scholarship. October 12. Funds two years of study in a degree program at the University of Oxford. Rhodes scholarships are available to nationals of 19 countries including the U.S. Fields unrestricted. U.S. citizens must be no older than 24 at the time of application.Covers full tuition and fees, awards living allowance, travel expenses and if desired research and grant monies. Truman Scholarship. February 9 of JUNIOR year. A merit-based grant awarded to undergraduate students who wish financial support to attend graduate or professional school in preparation for careers in government, the nonprofit sector, or elsewhere in public service. Selections are made on the basis of leadership potential, high academic achievement, strong faculty recommendations and prospects for success in graduate school. Candidates must be nominated by the Truman Faculty Representative. Must be a junior in college to apply. Awards $3000 for your senior year in college and up to $27,000 for graduate studies. Rotary International Ambassadorial Scholarships.January 15.The purpose of the Ambassadorial Scholarships program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries. Rotary sponsors several types of scholarships for graduate students. While abroad, scholars serve as ambassadors of goodwill to the people of the host country and give presentations about their homelands to Rotary clubs and other groups. Upon returning home, scholars share their experiences. Offers several different scholarships: One is a full scholarship that awards up to $25,000 for one year of study in another country; another offers up to $12,000 a year for 2-3 years. You can study a language intensively in another country for 3 months or 6 months, with awards in the amounts of $12,000 and $19,000, respectively. Barry Goldwater Scholarship. February 1. Undergraduate scholarship. For sophomores and juniors, designed to encourage outstanding students to pursue careers in mathematics, the natural sciences, and engineering. Morris K Udall Foundation. Undergraduate scholarship. Awards merit-based $5,000 scholarships to college sophomores and juniros who intend to pursue careers relating to the environment, or who intend to pursue careers in tribal public policy or Native American Health care and are Native American or Alaska Native.
