Randolph-Macon Knocks off Emory and Henry 2-0 on Senior Day
ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph-Macon Women’s Soccer team scored a single goal in each half to post a 2-0 victory over ODAC rival Emory & Henry Saturday afternoon in Ashland on Senior Day.
R-MC (7-7 / 4-5 ODAC) got on the board at the 11:31 mark when senior Lacy Phelps notched her team leading ninth goal of the season. Ashley Malinowski doubled the R-MC advantage just under five minutes into the second half when she tallied her fifth goal of the season.
China Bradley picked up her third shutout of the season, making two saves in the victory. R-MC out shot E&H 6-4 while each team had a pair of corner kicks.
Prior to the match, the women’s soccer program honored eight seniors for their four years of service.
#17 Elyse Hall
Hall has made 45 appearances in an Randolph-Macon uniform since arriving in Ashland. She has scored two goals and added three assists during her four years in the Yellow Jacket program.
#9 Kaitlyn Vernier
Vernier has made 54 career appearances for R-MC. In 2004, she was part of a defensive unit that surrendered just 12 goals all season.
#16 Elizabeth Steidle
Steidle has played in 45 career matches for Randolph-Macon. Steidle was part of a defensive unit that surrendered just 12 goals in 2004. Steidle also has one career goal and an assist to her credit.
#5 Jen Baird
Baird has played in 59 career matches for Randolph-Macon over the last four years. She has posted eight goals and 16 assists for a 34 career points.
#13 Katie McKown
Despite missing all of last season with an injury, McKown has played in 43 matches for the Randolph-Macon program. During that time she has posted one goal and two assists for a total of four points.
#1 Lacy Phelps
Phelps has appeared in 64 career matches for the Yellow Jackets. She has accumulated 26 career goals and 16 career assists for a total of 68 career points.
#4 Rachel Armstrong
Armstrong has played in 58 career matches since arriving in Ashland. A mainstay on defense, Armstrong has scored two goals and three assists for seven career points.
#8 Kendall Kirtley
Kirtley has appeared in 62 career matches as a member of the R-MC program. She has scored 18 career goals and added 11 assists for a total of 49 career points. She led R-MC scoring last season with seven goals and three assists for 17 points.
