Jocelyn Seven Stops Helps R-MC Past Bridgewater 2-0ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon College goalkeeper Mary Jocelyn made seven saves as the Yellow Jackets scored a 2-0 women’s soccer victory over visiting Bridgewater College on Wednesday afternoon in Ashland.
R-MC now stands a 3-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the league while Bridgewater drops to 3-4-0 and 1-2-0 against league foes.
Bridgewater had a chance to get on the board in the opening minute of the game when Kristen Harris dribbled down the left side of the field and managed a point blank shot on Jocelyn who turned the scoring attempt away.
The Yellow Jackets got the first goal at the 4:29 mark of the match when Brittany Jones slipped a pass to Lacy Phelps who used her right foot to tuck the ball inside the far right post past the keeper.
R-MC doubled its advantage just over 10 minutes later when Jen Baird sent in a corner kick to the box which was headed home by Rachel Armstrong to make the score 2-0 in favor of R-MC.
Bridgewater held a 14-10 advantage in shots and a 9-7 edge in corner kicks. Jocelyn’s counterpart Brooke Barham made one save on the afternoon for BC.
R-MC returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Virginia Wesleyan for a 7:00 p.m. ODAC match.
