Blake Tallies Five Points as Yellow Jackets Fly Past Notre Dame, 6-1
Baltimore, MD – Caitlin Blake netted two goals and tallied two assists to fuel R-MC past the College of Notre Dame in women’s soccer action today. Blake led all players with six points while three other Yellow Jackets scored goals in the 6-1 win against the Gators.
The Yellow Jackets wasted no time in grabbing an early lead. Forty-three seconds after the opening whistle, Elyse Cooper headed in a cross from Caitlin Blake for the first goal of the contest. Ninety-three seconds later, Ashley Malinowski sent another pass into the box, this time to the foot of Blake, who deposited the eventual game-winning goal into the back of the Notre Dame cage. After the Gators responded with a tally of their own, Blake lined a shot into the top right corner of the Notre Dame net for her fifth point of the half. The goal gave the Yellow Jackets a 3-1 lead heading into halftime.
R-MC continued to control the pace of the game after halftime. Elyse Cooper and Megan Calabrese added unassisted scores in the fifty-seventh and fifty-ninth minutes to give the Yellow Jackets a commanding 5-1 lead. Caitlin Blake added her second assist of the contest in the sixty-ninth minute, setting up freshman forward Brittany Jones for the final goal of the game.
The Yellow Jackets controlled the ball throughout the contest. R-MC goalkeepers Mary Jocelyn and China Bradley faced just three shots, while the Yellow Jackets poured thirty shots on the Gator net.
The victory moves R-MC’s record to a perfect 4-0-0 and drops Notre Dame to 0-3-0. The Yellow Jackets hope to ride their early-season momentum into conference play. R-MC opens up its ODAC schedule on Saturday when the Yellow Jackets host Guilford (0-3-0). Game time has been moved to 1:00.
