No. 8 Washington and Lee Holds off R-MC Women's Lax 13-7

ASHLAND, VA -- Britten Mathews notched three goals and two assists to lead the No. 8 Washington and Lee women's lacrosse team to a 13-7 victory over Randolph-Macon on Sunday afternoon.
The Generals (11-1, 4-0) struck just 1:48 into the contest when Mathews found senior attacker Laura Henson, who slipped one past R-MC senior goalkeeper Lindsay Schabert. The Yellow Jackets answered back with two tallies from junior midfielder Morgan Hutchinson and sophomore attacker Emily Kent, but W&L used a 4-0 run to push out a 6-4 lead going into the half.
Both teams began the second period with two goals and R-MC sliced it to a two-goal game (8-6) at 23:36, but W&L used a three-goal spurt to take an 11-6 lead at 15:39 en route to the victory.
R-MC (3-6, 3-1) was led by senior midfielder Lacy Phelps' two goals, while freshman attacker Erin Claire Cassidy notched one goal and dished out two assists. Senior midfielder Alex Wright also chipped in one goal and one assist. Schabert played 60:00 minutes in between the pipes and registered nine saves.
