No. 14 Cortland State Holds off R-MC Women’s Lacrosse 9-6

ASHLAND, VA – No. 14 Cortland State got four second-half goals from Jessie Fritz as the Red Dragons held off home standing Randolph-Macon College 9-6 in Ashland on Saturday afternoon.
R-MC (0-3) got on the board first when Alex Wright scored 1:23 into the contest. Cortland State roared back with three consecutive goals, two of which coming off the stick of Emily Soderquist.
A Marie Parry strike with 10:38 left in the first-half cut the CSU lead to 3-2 at intermission. Parry then struck again at the 22:30 mark of the second-half to tie the game for R-MC.
The Red Dragons broke the deadlock with a Fritz score with 18:14 left in the game. Fritz scored again at the 15:35 mark to put Cortland up 5-3 and CSU would add two more goals to go up 7-3 with just over eight minutes remaining.
After the Jackets cut the lead to 7-4 on a goal by Wright, Fritz scored on a free possession chance to put the game out of reach at 8-4 with 6:51 remaining.
R-MC out shot Cortland State 20-17 and got nine saves in net from keeper Lindsay Schabert.
The Yellow Jackets will off until Tuesday when they head to Catholic University for a 4:30 p.m. non-conference game.
