(Click Here for Box Score) ASHLAND, VA – Mary Hutchins scored five goals, including four in the second half of play as she led Guilford College to a 13-12 ODAC road win over Randolph-Macon College on Saturday afternoon in Ashland.
With GC (5-5 / 2-1 ODAC) up 1-0, R-MC (4-8 / 4-2 ODAC) took the lead on back-to-back goals by Kelly Cramer. The Quakers then went on a four-goal run as Jordan Clodfelter connected on a pair of strikes, while Hutchins and Carrie Ernst added scores to give GC a 5-2 lead with 10:45 to go in the first half.
R-MC’s Logan Pomeroy sparked what proved to be a 5-1 run for the Jackets with a goal at the 10:16 mark. Randolph-Macon led 7-5 in the closing seconds of the first stanza before Clodfelter struck again with under a minute remaining to make the score 7-6 at half time.
R-MC came out of the break and got back-to-back goals from Emily Kent in the first 2:12 of the second half to go up 9-6. Guilford then cut the Jackets lead to 9-8 with a pair of goals before Green gave Randolph-Macon a 10-8 edge with 23:56 left in the game.
Guilford scored the next five goals of the game, four of which came off the stick of Hutchins to go up 13-10 with 4:38 to play.
Morgan Hutchinson scored with just over three minutes remaining to pull R-MC within two at 13-11, but Guilford was able to run down the clock in the final two minutes to seal the victory.
Emily Kent tallied three scores on the day for R-MC, while Hutchinson, Green and Cramer each had a pair of goals in the loss. Lindsay Schabert made 13 stops in net for the Jackets.
GC also got four goals from Clodfelter, while goalkeeper Alyzza-May Callahan turned away 10 R-MC shots for the Quakers.
Randolph-Macon will return to action on Sunday when it takes on Greensboro College at home at 2:00 p.m.
