R-MC Women's Lax Advances to ODAC Semifinals with 15-14 Victory at Guilford

GREENSBORO, NC -- No. 5 Randolph-Macon knocked off home standing and fourth-seeded Guilford College 15-14 in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2008 ODAC Women's Lacrosse Championships. R-MC advances to take on top-seeded and semifinal host Washington and Lee on Saturday.
R-MC (6-9) jumped out to a 4-0 when Laura Fox tallied three consecutive goals to start the match then Lacy Phelps added the first of her three on the day at the 24:47.
Guilford rallied and cut the lead to 5-4 before Emily Kent scored a pair of goals in the last two minutes of the first stanza to send R-MC to the locker room with a 7-5 advantage.
The Yellow Jackets scored back-to-back goals to open the second half and go up 9-5 before the Quakers went on a 5-1 run to tie the score up at 10-10 with 15:59 to play.
Marie Parry and Phelps scored to push the Jackets ahead 12-10, before GC responded with a pair of goals of its own to tie the game with 9:03 to go.
Alex Wright sparked a three goal run for Randolph-Macon with a strike with just under seven minutes remaining. Goals by Erin Clare Cassidy and Logan Pomeroy extended the Jackets advantage to 15-12 with 4:31 to play.
Carolyn Rodda scored for GC with 4:14 on the clock and Kelly Gonzalez pulled the Quakers within one with 1:19 on the clock.
Guilford had one last chance, but R-MC keeper Lindsay Schabert turned aside a free-position shot with 52 seconds left to preserve the win for the Jackets.
