GREENSBORO, N.C.-- No. 19 Randolph-Macon College got game highs of 25 points and 15 rebounds from sophomore center Molly Ariail on its way to a 66-57 ODAC road victory over Guilford College Friday night in Greensboro, N.C.
Ariail scored 15 of her 25 points in the first half on 7-of-10 shooting. Ariail’s inside presence, coupled with an R-MC defense that held GC to just 6-of-32 (18.8%) from the field helped the Jackets to a 31-18 half time edge.
R-MC’s lead hit 20 points midway through the second half when Lindsay Riesbeck converted a pair of free-throws, making the score 50-30 with 10:50 left.
GC rallied to cut the R-MC advantage to six points at 61-55 when Tracy Croner drained a jumper with two minutes remaining, but that would be as close as the Quakers would get as the Yellow Jackets made 5-of-7 attempts from the charity stripe down the stretch to seal the game away.
Riesbeck also posted a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, and junior guard Amanda Hiltunen chipped in with 12 points of her own. The Yellow Jackets shot 41 percent from the floor in the game and held the Quakers to 29.2 percent field-goal shooting.
Croner and Ann Seufer led the Quakers in scoring with 19 points and 14 points, respectively.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Emory & Henry College for a 4:00 p.m. league game.
