Emory, VA – Emory & Henry College’s Sarah Petty led four Wasps in double digits with 25 points as E&H knocked off No. 19 Randolph-Macon College 76-68 in ODAC Women’s Basketball action Saturday afternoon.
R-MC (16-2 / 11-2 ODAC) was led by sophomore center Molly Ariail who matched Petty with a game-high 25 points on the night. Frontcourt mate Lindsay Riesbeck had 16 points, while Amanda Hiltunen recorded 10 points in the loss. R-MC made 21-of-59 (35.6%) shots on the afternoon and were 26-of-33 from the charity stripe.
Brittany Rogers (16 points), Baylie Snyder (12 points) and Krista Haynes (11 points) joined Petty in the scoring leaders for E&H, which shot 42% from the field for the game.
With the score tied at 21-21 with 7:50 left in the first half, the Wasps closed out the first stanza on an 18-6 run to take a 39-27 lead into the locker room at the break.
The Jackets chipped away in the second half and eventually took the lead 62-61 when Riesbeck converted a three point play with 4:33 remaining in the ball game.
Petty put the Wasps back on top with a three pointer that made the score 65-64 with 2:54 left. A pair of free-throws by R-MC’s Marta Merkel put the Yellow Jackets ahead 66-65 with 2:34 to play but, Rogers would drain a three pointer to give E&H a 68-66 advantage and the Wasps sealed the game with eight free-throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Tuesday night when it hosts Lynchburg College at 7:00 p.m. in Ashland.
