HARRISONBURG, VA – Reigning ODAC Player of the Week Molly Ariail led four Yellow Jackets in double figures with 16 points and game high 16 rebounds as the Randolph-Macon College women’s basketball team beat Bridgewater College 61-53 Tuesday night in Harrisonburg, Va.
R-MC, which is ranked 19th in the D3hoops.com poll released earlier today, is now 15-1 overall and 10-1 in ODAC play. BC drops to 8-8 overall and 6-6 in the league.
Amanda Hiltunen had 11 points in the win, while Jess Shifflett had 10 and Nicole Childress added 10 as well off the bench for R-MC. The Yellow Jackets made 33.9% of their shots on the night and forced 21 BC turnovers.
The Eagles were led by Jordan Burkholder who had a game high 24 points, while Nikki Sydnor had a team best 10 rebounds in the loss. BC made 18-of-49 (36.7%) shots on the night
R-MC found itself down 50-49 with 2:01 remaining in the game after BC’s Rebecca Henderson made a lay up. On the Jackets ensuing possession, Ariail sank a put back of her own shot, was fouled and converted a free-throw to give R-MC a 52-50 advantage and sparked what proved to be a 12-3 run to close the game and seal the win for Randolph-Macon.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Friday night when they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to take on Guilford College at 7:00 p.m.
