Big Second-Half Run Sends No. 12 Randolph-Macon Past Randolph 72-52

LYNCHBURG, VA – No. 12 Randolph-Macon College shot 69% in the second half to overcome a one point half-time deficit and go onto a 72-52 ODAC road victory over host Randolph College on Tuesday night.
The Yellow Jackets (11-0 / 6-0 ODAC) made 9-of-37 shots in the first stanza aiding the WildCats who managed to make 10 of their 24 shots, including five by Michelle Brockman who helped Randolph to a 24-23 lead at intermission with 12 first-half points.
The game remained close during the first part of the second-half before R-MC took the lead for good when a Molly Ariail lay up made the score 36-34 with 13:19 left in the game. The Jackets lead then grew to five on bucket by Nicole Childress with 11:21 to go.
The WildCats (1-9 / 0-7 ODAC) cut the lead to one point at 41-40 when Jamie Steigerwald made a jumper with 10 minutes left in the contest.
R-MC then went on a 24-5 run over the next eight minutes and took a 65-45 advantage when Childress made a lay up with 2:13 remaining.
The game clinching run over the last 10 minutes of the game, which saw the Jackets out score the WildCats 31-12, was fueled by Lindsay Riesbeck who scored eight points in the run and finished with 13 points on the night.
Ariail led R-MC with 16 points and eight rebounds on the evening. Ariail and Riesbeck were joined in double digits by Jess Shifflett and Amanda Hiltunen who had 12 and 10 points, respectively, while Childress had 12 points off the bench for the Yellow Jackets.
Brockman finished with a game-high 18 points for Randolph, while Katie Rechnitzer chipped in with 16 in a losing effort.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it welcomes Virginia Wesleyan College to Ashland for a 2:00 p.m. ODAC game.
