Ariail Leads No.14 Randolph-Macon to a 67-51 ODAC Victory over Visiting Guilford

ASHLAND, VA – Randolph-Macon College sophomore center Molly Ariail scored a game-high 20 points and pulled down eight rebounds as she led the 14th ranked Yellow Jackets to a 67-51 ODAC victory over visiting Guilford College Friday night in Ashland.
The Yellow Jackets (9-0 / 4-0 ODAC) also got a double-double from junior Lindsay Riesbeck who had 15 points and a game-high 10 rebounds in the win. Senior Jess Shifflett also scored in double figures with 10 points. Amanda Hiltunen had eight points and a game-high five assists in the victory. R-MC made 23-of-55 (41.8%) shots on the night and out rebounded the Quakers 49-30.
Guilford (8-2 / 4-2 ODAC) was paced by Lauren LeFevers who had a team best 14 points in a losing effort. Alexa Williams chipped in with 10 points, while grabbing a GC best seven rebounds. The Quakers shot 30% from the field, making 18-of-60 attempts on the evening.
With the score 13-12 at the 11:10 mark of the first half, R-MC went on a 15-2 run over the next four minutes and took a 14 point lead when a Hiltunen bucket made the score 28-14 with just under seven minutes remaining.
After a lay up by GC’s Shevon Hackett cut the R-MC advantage to 30-23 with 4:15 left, the Jackets closed out the first stanza with a 10-2 run that was capped off by a Rachel Parker jumper that sent Randolph-Macon into the locker room with a 42-25 advantage.
R-MC built on its lead in the second half, opening up a 21 point advantage when Ariail converted a pair of free-throws with 18:09 left in the game. The Jackets would maintain a double digit lead for the remainder of the game, seeing their advantage reach as many as 22.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it welcomes Emory and Henry College to Ashland for a 4:00 league game. Guilford will travel to Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. tip off.
