ASHLAND, VA – No. 14 Randolph-Macon College got double digit scoring from four different players and held off a late rally by visiting Emory & Henry College to upend the Wasps 86-78 in Ashland on Saturday afternoon.
R-MC, which is now 10-0 overall and 5-0 in the ODAC, got a team-high 20 points from Lindsay Riesbeck who made 7-of-13 shots and also had eight rebounds. Riesbeck’s front court mate Molly Ariail converted 8-of-9 shots on her way to a 17 point game, in just 17 minutes of action due to foul trouble. Amanda Hiltunen and Jess Shifflett had 16 and 12 points, respectively for the Yellow Jackets who made 60% (33-of-55) of their shots in the win.
Emory & Henry (3-7 / 2-4 ODAC) got a game-high 25 points from Baylie Snyder, who made 10-of-17 shots in the loss. Sarah Petty and Alex Lyons each had 16 points for the Wasps.
R-MC made 18 of its 29 shots in the first half to take a 47-37 lead into the locker room at intermission. In the second-half, the Jackets built on their lead and a Jennifer O’Briant jumper made the score 68-54 in favor R-MC with 9:20 left in the game.
A lay up by Ariail with 3:51 remaining in the contest gave the Jackets a 77-61 advantage. EHC then went on a 16-3 run, cutting the R-MC lead to three points at 80-77 with 29 seconds remaining, but that would be as close as the Wasps would get as R-MC knocked down six free-throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory.
R-MC will return to action on Tuesday night when it heads to Randolph College in Lynchburg, VA for a 7:00 p.m. ODAC game.
