Randolph-Macon Women’s Basketball Knocks off Bridgewater College 68-64

ASHLAND, VA – Amanda Hiltunen led four Yellow Jackets in double figures with a game-high 19 points as Randolph-Macon College knocked off visiting Bridgewater College 68-64 Tuesday night in ODAC Women’s Basketball action.
R-MC (18-3 / 13-3 ODAC) also got 13 points from Lindsay Riesbeck, 11 points from Molly Ariail and 10 tallies from Nicole Childress. Riesbeck and Ariail had eight and seven rebounds, respectively to lead the Yellow Jackets. R-MC made 21-of-52 (40.2%) shots from the field on the night, and converted 20-of-30 free throw attempts in the win.
Bridgewater (11-11 / 9-8 ODAC) got 13 points from Jordan Burkholder and Bianca Booker, while Jessica Timberlake and Kristin Bosserman had 12 and 11 points, respectively in the loss. The Eagles shot 42.6% from the field, making 26-of-61 field goal attempts. Nikki Sydnor pulled down eight boards to help BC to a 40-35 edge in rebounding for the evening.
Trailing 58-57 with 1:42 remaining, Ariail provided the 13th tie of the game with her first free-throw attempt then put the Yellow Jackets in front 59-58 with her second. After forcing a turnover on BC’s ensuing possession, Riesbeck split two defenders with a bounce pass that found an open Ariail for a bucket that put R-MC on top 61-58 with 1:11 to go. The Jackets would then drain seven-of-eight attempts from the charity stripe in the final minute to seal the victory.
Randolph-Macon will close out its home slate of regular season games on Saturday when it welcomes Randolph College to Ashland for a 2:00 p.m. ODAC game. Prior to the start of Saturday’s game with the WildCats, the Yellow Jackets will honor their three seniors Childress, Marta Merkel and Jess Shifflett.
