Randolph-Macon Women’s Basketball Knocks off Washington & Lee 81-57 in ODAC Hoops
LEXINGTON, VA – The Randolph-Macon College women’s basketball team ran its record to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in the ODAC with an 81-57 road victory over Washington & Lee University Friday night.
R-MC, which is currently ranked 22nd in the nation by D3hoops.com, was led by Molly Ariail who scored 17 points on 8-of-14 shooting in just 21 minutes of action. The Jackets also got double digit games from Jess Shifflett who had 14 points and Lindsay Riesbeck who had 12 points and nine rebounds on the evening.
Randolph-Macon made 32-of-61 (52.1%) shots from the floor while the Generals made 21-of-52 shots (40.4%) but connected on just 1-of-11 shots from beyond the three point line.
The Jackets started quickly, taking a 10-2 lead when Amanda Hiltunen hit a jump shot with 16:20 left in the first half. After W&L’s Amanda Kane converted one of two free throws to make the score 10-3, R-MC went on a 13-2 run that was capped off by a three-pointer from Nicole Childress midway through the half.
R-MC took a 40-26 advantage into the locker room and built on its lead early in the second half. A Riesbeck field goal with 18:38 left in the game made the score 48-27. R-MC’s lead grew to as many as 24 when Childress made a pair of free throws with 8:38 left in the game, making the score 63-39.
Washington & Lee (0-4 / 0-1 ODAC) was led by Bethany Ridenhour who had a team-high 16 points while Allie Long had 11 points in a losing effort.
The Yellow Jackets will head South on I-81 for a 4:00 p.m. tip-off Saturday against Roanoke College in Salem.
