Randolph-Macon Pulls Away to Defeat Lynchburg 91-70

LYNCHBURG, VA – The Randolph-Macon College women’s basketball team used a 15-0 midway through the second half to pull away from Lynchburg College 91-70 in Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) action on Friday from Turner Gymnasium.
LC led by six with 3:27 left in the first half, but the Yellow Jackets went on a 10-0 run the rest of the first stanza to send RMC into the half with a 38-34 lead. RMC came out of the half on fire, building an 11-point lead with 15:08 remaining in the game, but LC surged back, cutting the deficit to just three with 10:07 left off a Courtney Brewer (Culpeper, VA/Highland) three pointer. RMC would then hold LC without a field goal until the 4:26 mark, using a 20-7 run to take an 82-66 advantage.
Amanda Hiltunen was one of three Yellow Jacket players to score at least 21 points. Hiltunen shot 8-11 from the field to finish 22 points and contributed four assists. Molly Ariail had 21 points on 10-23 shooting along with 10 rebounds and four blocks while Lindsay Riesbeck tallied 21 points on 9-13 shooting from the field along with five boards.
Brittany Dahn scored a team-high 21 points, shooting 9-17 from the field, and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to pace the Hornets. Kristina Darby contributed with 11 points while Chevonne Booker posted six points, five rebounds, and seven assists.
The Yellow Jackets (20-4/15-4) shot 35-67 (52%) for the game and 7-11 (64%) from deep while the Hornets were 27-67 (40%) for the game and 5-14 (36%) from downtown. Randolph-Macon outrebounded the Hornets 42-38 and committed just 13 turnovers to 19 for LC.
R-MC will close out its regular season slate of games when it takes on Hollins University at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday in Roanoke, Virginia.
