Yellow Jackets Extend Winning Streak to Eight with Doubleheader Sweep of Shenandoah
(Game One Box Score) / (Game Two Box Score)
WINCHESTER, VA -- Randolph-Macon College continued its strong start to the 2008 softball season with a non-league doubleheader sweep over host Shenandoah Sunday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets (9-3) extended their winning streak to eight games with 5-2 and 13-4 victories over the Hornets (4-4).
With game one all tied at 1-1 heading into the sixth, R-MC broke things open with four runs on three hits off of SU starter Katie Haskins (2-2).
R-MC shortstop Shannon Long provided the big blow in the frame with a three-run double down the left field line.
SU scored a single run in the bottom of the seventh, but was held to just three hits in the contest as Katie Raulerson (4-1) went the distance for the victory. Raulserson walked three, struck out three and one of the two runs she allowed was unearned.
The Hornets bats came alive for 10 hits in the nightcap, but the Randolph-Macon had 16 of its own in the 13-4 victory. The Jackets once again used a big inning to fuel the victory - they scored five runs in the third and six more in the seventh to secure the sweep.
The big hit of the six run R-MC sixth inning came off the bat of Meaghan Mauck who connected for a three run homerun, the first of the year for the senior.
R-MC’s Courtney Brooks (4-1) earned the game two victory. She gave up four runs on 10 hits and one walk in the complete game performance.
Randolph-Macon returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Randolph College for a 1:00 ODAC doubleheader.
