R-MC Softball Extends Winning Streak to 16; Jackets to Host Roanoke Sunday at 1:00 pm

ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph-Macon College softball team improved to 17-3 on the season with a doubleheader sweep of Maine-Presque Island on Saturday afternoon. The Jackets, who have now won 16 games in a row, took game one 8-0 over the Owls and the nightcap 13-1.
In game one, R-MC jumped out early with six runs in its first at bat. Carrie Barchick singled with one out and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Paige Smith then doubled her home to put R-MC on top 1-0.
After singles by Brooke Snyder and Meaghan Mauck loaded the bases, Ashley Crouch doubled home Smith and Snyder to push the Jackets advantage to 3-0, while Shannon Long brought home Mauck on a ground out.
Casey Mauck singled home Crouch and Katie Newton rounded out the scoring with a double to plate Mauck and put the Jackets in front 6-0.
Christi Wise picked up the win for R-MC after going four innings, allowing just two hits and striking out three to improve to 3-1 on the season.
In game two, Randolph-Macon spotted the Owls a single run in the first and came back to take the lead in its first at bat when Meaghan Mauck singled home Barchick and Smith scored on a passed ball.
The Jackets opened up their lead to 11-1 with four runs in the second inning and five in the third. Smith highlighted the third inning with her 12th homerun of the season.
Katie Raulerson, Becky Clark and Courtney Brooks combined to allow just two Owl hits, while punching out six batters and not issuing a walk.
Randolph-Macon returns to action at home on Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. ODAC doubleheader versus Roanoke College.
