R-MC Softball Opens ODAC Play with Sweep of Randolph; Win Streak Now at 10

LYNCHBURG, VA. — The Randolph-Macon College softball team opened up its ODAC slate of games on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Randolph College. R-MC won game one 15-5, game two 8-0 and have now won 10 straight games.
In game one, Paige Smith again put R-MC up early, connecting for a homerun that scored Morgan Greene who led the game off with a walk. The Jackets doubled their lead later in the inning after Shannon Long’s two out doublescored Ashley Crouch and Meaghan Mauck.
The Yellow Jackets struck for five runs after sending 11 batters to the plate in the second inning to go up 9-1before Smith launched her team-best seventh homerun off the season leading off the third inning to put the Jackets up 10 -1.
R-MC was led by Katie Raulerson in the circle as she improved to 5-1 after giving up eight hits and striking out four in the victory.
In game two, Smith belted the final of her three homeruns on the day, connecting for a second inning two run shot that put R-MC (11-3 / 2-0 ODAC) out in front 2-0.
The Yellow Jackets then struck for six runs in the top half of the fourth inning to take a commanding 8-0 advantage. In that inning, R-MC took advantage of two WildCat errors and got a two run single off the bat of Carrie Barchick.
Courtney Brooks picked up the win in the circle to improve to 5-1 on the season. Brooks scattered four hits and struck out five in the victory.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Sunday when it hosts Wesley College at home at 1:00 p.m.
