R-MC Softball Splits ODAC Doubleheader with Guilford

ASHLAND, VA – The Randolph-Macon College softball team split an ODAC doubleheader with visiting Guilford College on Wednesday, losing game one 5-2, but rebounding in the night cap to take a 4-2 victory.
In game one, R-MC (20-6 / 3-3 ODAC) took an early lead after Morgan Greene led off the first inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Carrie Barchick. Greene would later score the game’s first run on a ground out by Brooke Snyder.
GC tied the game in the second inning and then scored three runs off R-MC starter Christi Wise in the third inning to go up 4-1.
Samantha Golley went the distance in the circle for GC, allowing just two runs on five hits and striking out six. Wise took the loss for the Jackets, dropping her record to 3-2 on the season.
In game two, Guilford went up 1-0 in the second inning on solo homerun off the bat of Golley.
The Jackets struck back with a pair of runs in the third inning when Paige Smith singled home Greene and Becky Clark to put R-MC out in front 2-1.
Randolph-Macon doubled its advantage in the fourth inning when Ashley Crouch doubled to lead off the inning and Shannon Long followed with a two-run homerun to put the Jackets up 4-1.
Courtney Brooks got the win for R-MC, pushing her record to 8-2 on the season. Brooks went 4.2 innings before giving way to Clark who closed out the game to pick up the save.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Saturday when it travels to Bridgewater College for a 1:00 p.m. ODAC doubleheader.
