Dodds Double Helps Washington and Lee Slip by Randolph-Macon 2-1
ASHLAND, VA – A pair of Josh Dodds goals in a 1:36 span at the beginning of the first-half proved to be the difference as Washington and Lee University upended Randolph-Macon 2-1 in ODAC men’s soccer action Wednesday in Ashland.
Dodds got W&L (4-1-2 / 2-0-1 ODAC) on the board 8:50 into the match after a Generals thrown in was batted around the R-MC box before being collected by Dodds who beat Yellow Jackets keeper Jason DePre.
Dodds then struck again 1:36 later when Tommy Pignatelli served a corner kick into the box that was headed home by Dodds to double W&L’s lead to 2-0.
R-MC came out in the second stanza and struck for a goal just under six minutes into the half when Ryan Willis set Chris Williams up for his second goal of the year.
The Yellow Jackets pressured the Generals throughout the second-half getting off 10 shots in the second 45 minutes, but W&L keeper Ted Sheedy made three saves to preserve the victory.
For the match, R-MC held a 15-9 advantage in shots while W&L edged the home team in corner kicks 7-3. DePre made four saves for the Jackets while Sheedy finished with six stops on the afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Saturday when it takes on Lynchburg College at 3:00 p.m. in Ashland.
