R-MC Knocks Off Roanoke for the First Time Since 1999
ASHLAND, VA -- Randolph-Macon topped Roanoke College 2-1 on Saturday afternoon. It marked the first time since the 1999 season that R-MC has beaten RC. The Yellow Jackets improve to 6-8; 4-3 in ODAC play.
In the first half, the Maroons would help out the Yellow Jackets as a Maroons defender kicked the ball past senior goalkeeper Austin Rose who couldn’t retrieve it as it went in their own net to give RMC a 1-0 lead. The RC miscue was caused by a great run from R-MC forward Chris Williams who applied pressure on the Maroon defense.
The Yellow Jackets would score their first goal to put them up 2-0 on a Brad Line shot that would go over Rose’s head to give them an insurance goal with 15 minutes remaining in the half.
The Maroons applied pressure in the second-half and it would eventually pay off as they would get three consecutive corner kicks before senior defender Jake Underwood would score his first goal of the season to give the Maroons their first goal to cut the Yellow Jackets lead, 2-1 just five minutes into the second half.
The Maroons out shot the Yellow Jackets, 14-4 and would have a 16-2 advantage on corner kicks. Jason DePre would have an outstanding game, coming up with nine saves for the Yellow Jackets.
The Maroons would get one last chance to score as Underwood would send a shot to the net, but DePre was there to come up with his biggest save of the afternoon.
