DeSales Squeaks by R-MC Men’s Basketball 59-57

CENTER VALLEY, PA – Brian Hunter’s jumper with two seconds remaining in the game propelled home standing DeSales to a 59-57 victory over Randolph-Macon College in men’s basketball action Sunday afternoon.
Justin Short who had a team-high 13 points on the afternoon led Randolph-Macon (1-3) in scoring, Brandon Braxton chipped in with a career-high 12 points and Jordan Brown added 10 as well. The Jackets shot 43% for the game, converting 22-of-51 field goals, but were just 4-of-16 from behind the arc.
DeSales (4-0) was paced by Darnell Braswell who netted a game-high 19, while Hunter added 12 in the win and Matt Zwetolitz contributed 11 points. R-MC held DeSales to 36% shooting from the floor, including 6-of-22 from the three point line.
R-MC held a slim 28-27 lead at half-time and was able to build its lead early in the second-half, going on a 14-5 run to open the second stanza. The Jackets took a 42-33 lead on a Billy Campion bucket with 12:44 to play in the game.
DeSales responded with a run of its own, scoring 13 of the next 15 points, taking a 46-44 lead on a three-point play from Braswell with 9:21 to go in the contest.
The game remained close with DeSales holding a 57-54 lead with just over two minutes to play before Short converted on a three-pointer to tie the game with 2:21 to go. The teams traded possessions with no score before Hunter closed out the contest with the game-winning jumper.
R-MC will be back in action on Wednesday when it travels to Randolph College for its opening ODAC game and its first contest against the WildCats. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m.
