ASHLAND, VA – Justin Short scored a game-high 22 points and Jeremy Dixon added a 14 point, 10 rebound, double-double as they led the Randolph-Macon College men’s basketball team to a 78-66 home ODAC victory over Washington and Lee University on Saturday.
R-MC, which is now 16-4 overall and 10-3 in the ODAC, also got 16 points off the bench from David Carlson who made 4-of-7 shots from behind the three-point arc. The Yellow Jackets shot 50% for the game, making 31-of-62 attempts from the field. Randolph-Macon also converted 7-of-13 free-throw attempts on the afternoon.
W&L (12-7 / 8-4 ODAC) was paced by Greg Bienemann who tied Short with 22 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor. Femi Kusimo came off the bench to score 14 points for the Generals who made 26-of-65 (40%) shots in the loss.
The Jackets claimed a 41-32 lead at half-time, fueled by a total of eight three-pointers made as a team with four coming from Carlson and three from Short.
R-MC came out and outscored W&L 19-9 in the first 7:48 of the second-half, taking a 60-41 advantage when Kevin Voelkel drained a jumper.
Washington and Lee chipped away and cut the lead to nine points when a Kusimo bucket made the score 68-59 with 4:40 left, but R-MC got big scores from Dixon and Jordan Brown and converted 6-of-7 free-throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Randolph-Macon will be right back in action tomorrow afternoon when it welcomes Roanoke College to Ashland for a 2:00 p.m. ODAC game.
