Yellow Jackets Slide by Lynchburg 56-51 for Seventh Straight Victory
ASHLAND, VA – Jeremy Dixon scored a team-high 13 points and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds as he helped home standing Randolph-Macon College knock off Lynchburg College 56-51 Wednesday in ODAC Men’s Basketball action.
The Yellow Jackets, who have now won seven in a row to improve their record to 8-2 on the season and 2-1 in the league, also got 11 points from junior point guard Justin Short who also did not turn the ball over in 40 minutes of action. Freshman Jordan Brown came off the bench to chip in with 10 points for the Jackets in the win. R-MC out rebounded the Hornets 44-28 while shooting 38.3% (18-of-47) from the floor in the win.
R-MC spoiled a game-high 27 point performance from Mason Wooldridge who also led LC (2-6 / 0-2 ODAC) with eight boards on the night. Wooldridge was the lone Hornet in double figures as Jack Burgess was the second leading scorer with nine points on the night.
The Jackets held a 27-23 lead at the half despite making just 9-of-29 (31.0%) shots in the first stanza. LC came out in the second half and took the lead on a three pointer by Kwame Safo which made the score 31-29 in favor of the Hornets with 16 minutes left in the game.
R-MC then went on a 10-0 run which was capped off by a Dixon bucket that made the score 39-31 with 12:15 remaining. LC chipped away over the next eight minutes and managed to cut the R-MC advantage to 52-51 when Wooldridge knocked down a three pointer with 4:06 on the clock.
That would be as close as the Hornets would get as the Jackets held LC scoreless for the remainder of the contest and got a key lay up from Brown with 1:36 remaining that made the score 54-51.
The Yellow Jackets will hit the road for their next two games as they head to Guilford College for a 3:00 p.m. tip off on Saturday and a 2:00 p.m. game at Emory and Henry College on Sunday.
