No. 23 Guilford Upends Randolph-Macon 69-51 in ODAC Men’s Basketball Action

ASHLAND, VA – Reining National Player of the Year Ben Strong tallied game highs of 21 points, 15 rebounds and five assists in leading No. 23 Guilford College to a 69-51 victory over Randolph-Macon College Saturday afternoon in ODAC Men’s Basketball action.
The Quakers jumped out to an early 10 point lead in the opening minutes of the game when Ray Edmond knocked down a three pointer to make the score 12-2 with 14:17 remaining.
The Yellow Jackets rallied and cut the lead to 18-13 when David Carlson drained a trifecta with eight minutes left in the half.
GC responded with a 12-4 run to open up a double-digit advantage and went into the locker room leading 34-23 when Edmond beat the buzzer on a lay up off a long outlet pass from Strong.
The Quakers put the game away early in the second stanza, scoring 11 of the first 16 points of the half, taking a 45-28 edge on a bucket by Sanborn with 12 minutes left in the game.
R-MC (13-4 / 7-3 ODAC) was paced by Justin Short who had a team high 15 points while, Jordan Brown scored 14 in his first collegiate start. The Jackets made 18-of-55 shots from the field (32.7%), including 7-of-25 from three point range.
GC got strong contributions from Erik Belkoski and Caleb Kimbrough who joined Strong in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. The Quakers made 23-of-48 (47.9%) shots on the afternoon and converted 18-of-20 free-throw attempts.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Sunday when it hosts Emory & Henry College at 2:00 p.m. in Ashland.
