Randolph-Macon Upends No. 11 Guilford 69-60; R-MC Winning Streak Now at Eight

GREENSBORO, NC – Randolph-Macon College’s David Carlson scored a game-high 26 points as he led the Yellow Jackets to a 69-60 ODAC road win at No. 11 Guilford College Saturday afternoon in Greensboro, N.C.

The Jackets have now won eight games in a row to improve their record to 9-2 overall and 3-1 in the ODAC. Carlson knocked down four of R-MC’s 10 three point field goals on the afternoon and made all six of his free-throw attempts on the day.

R-MC also got 14 points from point guard Justin Short and 12 points from freshman Danny Jones who made 4-of-6 shots in the win. Jeremy Dixon helped the Yellow Jackets win the battle on the glass 44-38 with a game-high nine boards.

Guilford was paced by senior center Ben Strong who had 17 points on 7-of-9 shooting. GC’s only other double figure scorer was George Neville who had 10 points in a losing effort.

A back and forth contest throughout, consecutive three-pointers by Jones with four minutes to play triggered a game-ending 22-7 run by the Jackets.

Trailing 53-47 with 7:34 remaining in regulation, R-MC’s Jordan Brown scored a three-pointer before Jones knocked down his first trifecta at the 4:39 mark, which tied the game for the ninth and final time. Following a Guilford miss, Jones drained his second three-pointer, this one from the top of the key off a Short assist.

The basket gave the Yellow Jackets a 56-53 edge with 3:56 left and marked the contest's 10th and final lead change. Guilford drew no closer than two points as the Yellow Jackets held the Quakers without a field goal for 7:31 during their decisive, game-ending burst and made 11-of-12 free-throws down the stretch to seal the victory.

Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Sunday when it travels to Emory & Henry College for a 2:00 ODAC contest.
