Balanced Scoring and Defense Help R-MC to a 102-81 Victory at ODAC Rival Emory & Henry
EMORY, VA – Justin Short led five Yellow Jackets in double figures with 22 points as he helped Randolph-Macon College to a season high in points in a 102-81 victory over Emory & Henry College on Sunday afternoon.
The Jackets have now reeled off nine wins in a row, improving their season record to 10-2 overall and 4-1 in the ODAC. The Wasps fall to 0-4 in the league and 4-6 overall.
Jeremy Dixon made 9-of-11 shots from the field on his way to 18 points for the Yellow Jackets, who made 42 of their 65 shots on the afternoon, while holding the league’s top scoring team in the Wasps (114.1 ppg) to a season low in points. R-MC also got strong contributions from David Carlson (17 points), Boris Varela (13 points) and Danny Jones (10 points).
Short also dished out a game-high seven assists for R-MC which recorded helpers on 28 of their 42 made baskets on the day. Jordan Brown came off the bench and grabbed a game-high seven boards to help R-MC win the rebounding battle 50-35.
The Yellow Jackets defense held the high scoring Wasps to 31.3% shooting from the floor, and forced 26 turnovers which led to 32 points on the other end of the court for the Jackets.
Emory & Henry was led by Camillo Weinz who had a game-high 25 points in the loss. Josh Cunningham chipped in with 11 points as well.
Randolph-Macon will be back in action on Wednesday when it welcomes Eastern Mennonite University to Ashland for a 7:00 p.m. ODAC game.
