Randolph-Macon’s Justin Short Named First-Team All-ODAC; Jordan Brown Selected as Rookie of the Year
SALEM, VA – Randolph-Macon College junior point guard Justin Short was named First-Team All-ODAC and freshman forward Jordan Brown was named the league’s Rookie of the Year, while senior forward Jeremy Dixon was a second-team choice as the conference announced its yearly awards at the Salem Civic Center Thursday evening.
Short was a first-team selection after finishing the regular season tied for seventh in the league in scoring with 15.8 ppg. The Chesterfield, Virginia native also was seventh in the league with 3.6 assists per game and his 79.8 percentage from the free-throw line ranks fifth in the ODAC. Short led the entire league in minutes played, averaging 33 each time out on the floor.
Brown was one of four Yellow Jackets in double-figures; he also ranks 21st in the league in scoring at 11.8 points a game. He is fifth in blocked shots at 1.2 per outing, eighth in field goal percentage at a 55.6% clip, and ninth in steals at 1.44 per game. He recorded a season-high 23 points on 9-of-12 shooting in a win over Lynchburg.
Dixon earned second-team honors for the second consecutive year after averaging 12.2 points-per-game and his 7.8 rebounds ranks fifth best in the league. Dixon also finished the regular season ranked 10th in the league in FG%, shooting at a 54.0% clip.
Junior forward Boris Varela was also recognized by the league’s head coaches on Thursday night as he was chosen as a member of the ODAC Men's Basketball All Sportsmanship team.
Randolph-Macon finished the season 20-5 overall and 14-4 in the ODAC. The Yellow Jackets are seeded third in the ODAC Tournament and will take on Hampden-Sydney College at 8:00 p.m. Friday night at the Salem Civic Center in quarterfinal action.
