VIRGINIA BEACH, VA – No. 16 Virginia Wesleyan College snapped No. 19 Randolph-Macon College’s 12 game winning streak Saturday with a 56-38 victory at the Batten Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
The Marlins had a 23-21 lead at intermission and then held the Jackets scoreless through the first 5:28 of the second-half. The Marlins outscored R-MC 19-0 in that span to open up a 42-21 advantage with 14:32 remaining. Norman Hassell emerged for seven points in the Marlin run, which was followed by a brief R-MC rally. Justin Short sparked the Jacket effort, scoring six points in a 12-4 R-MC scoring spurt that cut the VWC deficit to 13 points with 5:37 on the clock.
That was as close as the Jackets would get as VWC iced the game down the stretch to improve their record to 13-3 and 7-2 in the ODAC while R-MC drops to 13-3 and 7-2 in league play as well.
Short led R-MC scoring with nine points. Jeremy Dixon added seven and Danny Jones tallied six.
R-MC will return to action Saturday afternoon in Ashland when it welcomes Guilford College for a 2:00 p.m. ODAC game.
