R-MC Men's Basketball Runs Past Pitt-Greensburg 75-47
READING, PA – The Randolph-Macon College Men’s Basketball team earned its first win of the 2007-08 season on Saturday night with a 75-47 victory over Pitt-Greensburg in the consolation game of the Albright College Tip-Off Tournament held in Reading, Pennsylvania.
R-MC (1-1) was led by junior point guard Justin Short who scored a game-high 13 points. Freshman Danny Jones connected on 4-of-7 shots from the field on his way to 12 points in the win. Thirteen different Yellow Jackets scored in the victory as R-MC shot 50.9 % from the field, making 27-of-53 shots. The Jackets out rebounded Pitt-Greensburg 48-36, including a team-high seven boards from senior Jeremy Dixon.
Pitt-Greensburg (0-2) was paced by Josh Kucenic who had 12 points in a losing effort. Jacquet Wells pulled down a game-high nine rebounds in the loss.
Leading 20-12 with 8:45 left in the first half, R-MC went on a 16-5 run over the course of the next seven minutes. A three-pointer by freshman Thomas Scheeler with 1:49 left in the first stanza capped the run and put the Jackets up by 19 points at 36-17.
R-MC saw its lead grow to 21 points in the second half when freshman Kevin Voelkel converted a three-point play with 13:37 left in the game, making the score 51-30 in favor of the Jackets.
Voelkel’s three-point play came in the midst of a 21-3 run by R-MC that was capped off by freshman Brandon Braxton whose three point play put the Jackets up 66-33 with 5:24 left in the game.
Randolph-Macon will be out of action until December 1 when it will travel to Lexington, Virginia for a 2:00 p.m. ODAC tilt with the Generals of Washington and Lee University.
