R-MC Claims 2007 Briggs Elliott Classic Behind Double-Doubles From Dixon and Varela
ASHLAND, VA – Host Randolph-Macon College claimed the 2007 Briggs Elliott December Classic in Ashland on Monday night with a 73-60 victory over Muhlenberg College in men’ s basketball action.
R-MC (5-2) was led by tournament most outstanding player Jeremy Dixon who tied for the team lead with 12 points and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. Fellow all-tournament team members Boris Varela and David Carlson had 12 points and 11 points, respectively on the night. Varela also added 10 rebounds while Jordan Brown also finished in double digits with 10 points on the night.
The Yellow Jackets owned the glass, out rebounding the Mules by a 45-25 margin. R-MC made 25-of-58 (43.1) shots from the floor on the night, including 5-of-10 three point field goals.
Muhlenberg was paced by Ryan Foster who had 14 points while Darrell Roth had 11 on the night as well. The Mules made 20-of-46 (43.5%) shots on the night and were 14-of-23 from the free-throw line.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action on December 29th when it hosts the 2007 Rees Jewelers Christmas Classic. R-MC will open up the tournament against Immaculata University at 2:00 p.m.
