Walsh and Blue Streaks Spoil R-MC Men's Basketball Season Opener 68-66
READING, PA -- John Carroll University’s Terry Walsh scored 28 points including 19 in the second-half and pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds to lead the Blue Steaks to a 68-66 victory over Randolph-Macon College in the opening round of the Albright College Tip-Off Tournament in Reading, Pennsylvania Friday night.
R-MC (0-1) was led by junior David Carlson who scored a team high 21 points on 6-of-14 shooting, including four three pointers on the evening. Junior Justin Short scored eight points on the night and dished out four assists for R-MC. Carlson, senior Jeremy Dixon and freshman Danny Jones all pulled down a team-best seven rebounds in a losing effort for the Jackets.
R-MC made 23-of-64 (35.9%) shots on the night and 14-of-16 attempts from the charity stripe. The Jackets were 6-of-21 (28.6%) from three-point range as well.
John Curran chipped in with eight points for JCU (1-0) while Derek Smith nabbed nine boards in the win. The Blue Streaks shot 21-of-56 from the field (37.5%) and connected on 22-of-27 (81.5) free-throws.
Randolph-Macon will close out the tournament on Saturday night when it will take on either Pitt-Greensburg or host Albright at 6:00 p.m.
