Lynchburg Sweeps ODAC Doubleheader from Randolph-Macon 17-1 & 6-4
(Game One Box Score) (Game Two Box Score)
ASHLAND, VA -- The Randolph-Macon College baseball team dropped an ODAC doubleheader to Lynchburg College Saturday afternoon, losing game one 17-1 and game two 6-4. The Yellow Jackets now stand at 12-10 overall and 5-2 in the league play.
In game one, the Hornets scored 10 runs in the first inning and never looked back as the banged out 17 hits on their way to the victory. Joe Devlin picked up the win on the mound for LC (17-7 / 7-1 ODAC), going five innings and surrendering four hits to improve to 4-0 on the season.
In the nightcap, R-MC led 4-3 heading into the ninth inning, but Lynchburg loaded the bases and tied the game on a bloop single to Cameron Grant that scored Mark Carlson. LC then got the eventual game-winning run when Daniel Haugh’s grounder was misplayed in the infield allowing Ryan Litz to score.
The Hornets comeback spoiled a strong outing from R-MC starter Byron Mendenhall who went 7.1 innings, gave up three runs on just seven hits and struck out four. The loss drops Mendenhall’s record to 3-1 on the season.
Greg Meleski got R-MC on the board with a two run homerun in the first, before LC responded with the three runs in the third inning. The Jackets reclaimed the lead in the sixth inning when Meleski doubled with one out and then Hartt followed with a walk. After both runners moved up on a wild pitch, Mike Wallace put R-MC on top 4-3 with an RBI double.
The Yellow Jackets will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Eastern Mennonite University for a 3:00 p.m. ODAC contest.
