Hanover Artist Steven Dorton Displays Photographs in Randolph-Macon College Welcome Center
16 original photographs by local artist Steven Dorton are coming to the Randolph-Macon College Welcome Center. The collection features the colorful creations of Dorton, a Hanover resident and well-known professional photographer. Many of the images portray scenes of Randolph-Macon College and the Ashland community, including prints of historic old campus, Henry Clay Inn, and the Ashland train station.
A commercial photographer, Dorton has expressed an interest in photography for more than twenty years. His passion for the art started at age 12 when his brother gave him a camera as a gift. Born and raised in Hanover, Dorton has always taken an interest in subjects from his local area. He is currently working on a series to be published in a book titled “A Photographer’s Journey Across Virginia.” In the book, Dorton will showcase photographs from every county in Virginia. The works on display in the Randolph-Macon College Welcome Center utilize a medium Dorton refers to as traditional photography with computer enhancements and represent the first steps in his “Photographer’s Journey Across Virginia” series.
This exclusive photography exhibit, which is free and open to all, will be on display in the Randolph-Macon College Welcome Center starting October 2. The Welcome Center is located at the corner of England and Henry streets in Ashland, Va., and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This exhibit is one of many collections that have been loaned to the Randolph-Macon College Welcome Center for display. During the past few years, numerous well-respected local, regional and nationally recognized artists have showcased their work in the center.
