Weekly Public Stargazing at R-MC
The community is invited to come see the stars from the Keeble Observatory on the campus of Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Virginia. Keeble Observatory will be open on Tuesday evenings from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. through December 4, weather and viewing conditions permitting. The observatory, located on Patrick Street on the R-MC campus, has a 12” Cassegrain telescope from which visitors can obtain a close-up view of the heavens. Student assistants will operate the telescope and answer questions about the astronomical phenomena being observed. Admission is free and reservations are not required. Visitors should dress appropriately for prevailing temperatures, as Keeble Observatory is not heated.There will no stargazing session October 16 or November 20.
The Keeble Observatory is a teaching laboratory for the college’s physics department. Built in 1960, it is used for student and faculty research and is a vital component of the college’s astrophysics program.
