Nora Lundberg '14
Randolph-Macon College student Nora Lundberg ’14 is the chair of this year’s Relay for Life event, which takes place May 3-4, 2014 on R-MC’s football field.
Relay for LifeThe annual Relay for Life fundraiser, which benefits the American Cancer Society, began in the 1980s. Teams of volunteers take turns walking for the duration of the 24-hour event and spend the night camping out. Lundberg, a communication studies major and journalism minor, is excited to be part of this community event.
“At Relay for Life events, people across the globe come together to honor cancer survivors and remember those who have died,” explains Lundberg. “The money raised truly makes a difference in the fight against cancer.” To date, the R-MC community has raised more than $16,000 for this year’s event.
Relay for Life teams set up fundraising tables, and members take turns walking around the football field. Activities and games provide entertainment for all ages and include T-shirt tie-dying, face painting, an obstacle course, and more. In addition, there will be food available for purchase from various vendors, including Chick-fil-A, Jersey Mike’s, and Einstein’s Bagels.
The event opens with a Survivor Lap dedicated to cancer survivors, and it closes with a Luminaria Ceremony, held at nightfall, to honor those who have been touched by cancer and to remember loved ones lost to the disease. A scholarship recipient, she takes advantage of all that R-MC offers, including The EDGE, a four-year career program.
She has also participated in R-MC’s study-abroad program and done three internships. Lundberg currently works as the assistant events manager at Hanover Tavern and Pub and hopes to pursue a career in event planning.
