Randolph-Macon College Equestrian Team finished its regular season of competition
with a strong showing at the University of Mary Washington’s show, February 15-16,
2014. The team placed fourth overall out of eight teams in the highly competitive
Zone 4, Region 4 of the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association.
Amanda Mettel ’17 won her Walk/Trot class and Geordie LaRue
’17 rode well to finish with a 2nd place in her class.
Kristin Kunz ’16 continued her winning streak in the IHSA to take
the 2nd place in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter. Team Captain Emily Kirk ’16
added to the point total with a 3rd in both Novice on the Flat and Over Fences,
an incredible accomplishment for this newcomer to the jumping scene. The team points
were boosted also by Marika Beale ’16, who brought home a 3rd in
her first Open Flat class (she pointed out of Intermediate at the last show in the
fall season) and a 5th over fences. Jenny McDonough ’16 finished
strong for the team in Open Fences and Intermediate Flat.
On February 23, Beale and Kunz will represent R-MC at IHSA Regionals, to be held
at the University of Mary Washington.
“This is a young team, comprised entirely of freshmen and sophomores,” says team
Director Dana Lesesne. “We are extremely proud of what they have accomplished this
year and look forward to more great things in the coming year. We hope to build
our roster and have more than one rider in each division for the 2014-2015 competition
The team trains at Stillmeadows Farm in Mechanicsville, Virginia with Sulu and Derek
