Instructor of Music Kimberly Fox
Randolph-Macon College Instructor of Music Kimberly
Fox was recently lauded for her musical direction in a play.
On October 21, 2013, the Richmond Theatre Critics Circle celebrated excellence in
local theater with its sixth annual “Artsies” awards, presented at a black-tie gala
at Virginia Repertory’s November Theatre in Richmond. Fox received the Best Musical
Direction award for Next To Normal, produced by Cadence Theatre in cooperation
with Virginia Repertory Theatre.
“It’s an incredible honor to win,” says Fox, who teaches Class Piano and Applied
Piano at R-MC. “Next to Normal was the most difficult score I’ve ever worked
on. It won both Tony and Pulitzer prizes, and has a memorable sung-through rock
score with complex melodies and rhythms. The cast, musicians, and creative and design
teams were amazing.”
Fox also received a Best Musical Direction nomination for her work in bare: a pop
opera for Richmond Triangle Players (which won the “Artsie” for Best Musical).
Fox earned her Bachelor of Music Education at Appalachian State University. At R-MC,
she teaches Class Piano and Applied Piano, and is also Staff Accompanist.
